Kate Wiley - 2023 Emerging Artist Award

Congratulations to Chickasaw artist Kate Wiley for winning the 2023 Emerging Artist Award at the Red Earth Festival. The Emerging Artist Award recognizes and celebrates emerging First American artists who demonstrate exceptional skill, vision and commitment to their cultural heritage. Wiley creates abstract fluid paintings meant to convey movement and describes her work as “dancing on canvas.” After being a dancer for 30 years, Wiley has embraced this new form of self-expression and its similarities. “You have to have an open mind and work with the paint and release a certain amount of control over it to see where it takes you,” says Wiley. “This has taught me so much about life.” Find Kate Wiley’s piece “Angel of the Night” (24x12) available for purchase at Exhibit C Gallery.
