Joyce Nevaquaya-Harris

Joyce grew up surrounded by art and artists including her late father Doc Tate Nevaquaya, a self-taught artist and native flute revivalist. Joyce honors the importance of continuing to paint indigenous stories and history while continuing on her father’s legacy of art.

Joyce Nevaquaya-Harris comes from the Comanche Nation of Oklahoma and is a descendant of the Chickasaw and Crow Nations. Joyce grew up surrounded by art and artists including her late father Doc Tate Nevaquaya, a self-taught artist and native flute revivalist. Joyce honors the importance of continuing to paint indigenous stories and history while continuing on her father’s legacy of art. She describes painting as “medicine” and a way to show the world who she is. Joyce is an award-winning artist with work in the office of the Secretary of the Interior (through the U.S. Interior Museum) as well as features in Travel OK and publications from the Tribes 131 Gallery in Norman, OK, among others. Her recognition spans the globe with art patrons from France, Canada, Egypt, Hawaii, Alaska and much of the U.S.
