Chickasaw and Choctaw artist Melissa Freeman resides in Oklahoma City with her family. Melissa is a self-taught dressmaker and clothing designer specializing in Chickasaw and Choctaw traditional regalia. Prior to her professional career, Melissa grew her passion for sewing by designing costumes for her children. After developing an advanced skill and eye for detail, Melissa embarked on making her first Chahta dress sewn by hand. Soon after, a family friend would propel Melissa’s career forward by being her first commission. Now, Melissa designs Chikasha and Chahta regalia for many clients, several of whom are repeat customers. Dressmaking is simply one of many capabilities Melissa possesses and she does not shy away from new artistic endeavors.
