Taylor Cheyenne Martin is a Chickasaw/Seminole mother, wife, multidisciplinary artist and instructor. Born and raised in Oklahoma, she was first captivated by handmade jewelry as a young child where she would watch her grandmother and aunties trade sterling silver and turquoise earrings. These fond memories developed the foundation of her admiration for authentic and quality made adornments.
It was not until much later while attending the University of Central Oklahoma that she was fortunate enough to take a metalsmithing class. This experience nourished her creative side and provided her basic skills as well as the motivation to learn more about the significant impact of Native American metalsmiths in the jewelry world. She is very intentional when creating pieces that include symbolism or inspiration from her culture within the design elements.
Taylor makes jewelry for loved ones for special occasions, sells pieces at local popups, galleries, museums and across the country through online marketplaces. She started teaching at OK Contemporary, a museum in downtown Oklahoma City, in Spring 2021. This sparked her passion for teaching metal arts and she quickly discovered just how much of a demand there is in the community to learn about this craft. She is now motivated to increase representation and accessibility to the art of metalsmithing for folks in Oklahoma City.
Taylor loves facilitating creativity within others and witnessing them have fun while succeeding with a new skill. It has become very fulfilling and she is grateful for the opportunity to instruct others.
